McKinney Homeowners Power Up with Hands-On Electrical Workshops

Published

on

ABR Electric’s Electrical Skills for Homeowners workshop in McKinney, TX offers a practical, hands-on adult education class designed for homeowners who want to confidently handle basic electrical tasks. From replacing switches and GFCIs to using digital multimeters and understanding breaker panels, this small-group training emphasizes safety, real-world skills, and confidence building. It’s part of a growing trend in adult education, offering a unique mix of DIY learning, home improvement, and even date night experiences for couples across Collin County.

Local Electrician Brings Practical Skills—and a Bit of Spark—to Adult Education

A growing number of homeowners in Collin County are trading in YouTube tutorials for hands-on experience, thanks to a unique educational series offered by local company ABR Electric. These “Electrical Skills for Homeowners” workshops—hosted monthly at ABR’s McKinney facility—are quickly becoming a popular resource for adults looking to gain confidence with electrical basics.

Led by Master Electrician James Adams, the classes are tailored for beginners and DIYers alike, offering small group instruction on real wiring systems using industry-grade tools. The workshops are attracting homeowners from across the region, including Frisco, Allen, Plano, Celina, Melissa, and Fairview, many of whom want to learn how to safely handle common home projects.

“It’s about giving people real confidence,” said one recent participant. “I went from being intimidated by my breaker panel to knowing exactly what to do when something trips. Plus—it was actually fun.”

What the Workshop Covers: From Confused to Capable—One Circuit at a Time

ABR Electric’s Electrical Skills for Homeowners course isn’t just a sit-down seminar—it’s a fully hands-on experience where participants learn by doing, not watching.

Each student is assigned a real, functional training board that simulates a home wiring setup. Under the guidance of a licensed electrician, they’ll wire circuits, strip conductors, and test live systems in a safe, controlled environment. Here’s what’s covered:

Replacing Switches and Dimmers

Learn how to identify and replace single-pole and 3-way switches, which control lights from one or more locations.

Understand how to properly connect switch legs, hot wires, and traveler wires—a must for anyone upgrading switches during a renovation.

Install dimmer switches, including incandescent vs. LED-compatible dimmers.

Learn about derating, wattage limits, and why some dimmers get warm (and when that’s normal vs. dangerous).

Students will physically remove and replace switches on mock wall setups and test their wiring using continuity tools.

Installing and Testing GFCIs (Ground Fault Circuit Interrupters)

Understand what a GFCI is, why it’s required in wet locations, and how it protects you from fatal shocks.

Learn the difference between LINE vs. LOAD terminals, and why wiring them backwards disables protection.

Practice installing both indoor and outdoor GFCI receptacles and testing them using a plug-in GFCI tester.

Students will intentionally trip and reset GFCIs to understand fault conditions and learn how to troubleshoot a non-working outlet.

Modern Receptacles, USB Ports, and Decora Outlets

Learn to wire standard duplex outlets, USB combo outlets, and Decora-style (rectangular) receptacles.

Cover code differences between 2-wire and 3-wire systems, and how to recognize hot-neutral-reversed and open ground issues.

Learn about tamper-resistant receptacles (now code-required in many areas) and how they differ.

Students will practice installing different outlet types and testing polarity using plug-in analyzers and voltage testers.

Using a Digital Multimeter

Learn how to safely measure voltage (AC/DC), continuity, and resistance using a multimeter.

Practice troubleshooting open neutrals, broken switches, and hot-but-not-working outlets.

Understand how to use the meter to safely determine if a circuit is live—before touching it.

Participants will take home a printed multimeter quick-guide and apply real testing methods on their assigned practice stations.

Breaker Panels & Circuit Mapping

Learn how your breaker panel (load center) works—including double-pole breakers, tandem breakers, and panel labeling.

Understand what’s behind each breaker: the circuit path, the wire size, and the load type.

Learn how to trace an unknown circuit using a circuit tracer or tone generator, and how to update your panel schedule for clarity and safety.

Students will label a sample panel, identify overload conditions, and learn how to calculate amperage using Ohm’s Law.

Safety-First, Confidence-Second

Throughout the workshop, emphasis is placed on proper PPE use, voltage verification, and lockout/tagout basics—giving homeowners a clear framework for when it’s safe to DIY, and when to call a professional.

By the end of the class, participants don’t just leave with knowledge—they leave with hands-on skills, printed reference materials, and the kind of confidence that comes from doing it themselves in a controlled environment.

“The goal isn’t to turn anyone into an electrician overnight,” says James Adams. “It’s to help homeowners stop guessing—and start understanding.”

Would you like this formatted into a downloadable syllabus or one-pager PDF for students or city education boards?

A Surprising Date Night Trend

One unexpected twist? The workshops are doubling as “electrifying” date nights. ABR Electric has seen several couples join the class together, using it as a unique bonding experience.

“It was something different,” one attendee shared. “Instead of dinner and a movie, we installed outlets and laughed through the whole thing.”

With increasing interest from real estate agents, property investors, and even first-time homeowners, the class is now viewed as a vital form of adult education in McKinney and surrounding cities.

Enrollment & Details

The course fee is $325, and space is limited. Payments are accepted via PayPal and Venmo. The next session begins in June, and interested participants are encouraged to reserve early.

TOMI App launches the Super app of Web3: intuitive crypto-native messaging and built-in monetization tools to simplify payments

Published

on

The app combines a messaging interface with a built-in Web3 wallet, monetization tools for content creators, and multi-profile support—delivering a smooth, Web2-style experience in a crypto-native context.

Tel Aviv, Israel —July 22, 2025 —  TOMI is launching its crypto-native super app: a platform where messaging, crypto payments, and multi-profile identity management come together in one seamless experience. Designed for both Web3 and Web2 users, the TOMI App makes it easy to chat, pay, and connect—without compromising privacy or ease of use.

TOMI is an evolution of what originally inspired the decentralized web: an internet that belongs to its users. But instead of trying to destroy the centralized web and rebuild from scratch, TOMI found that the best way forward would be a synthesis of both worlds –  delivering one product that brings everything together—messaging, payments, identity, and community—under a single, user-friendly interface.

Within the app, users can chat, make transfers and payments using the native $TOMI—including within the chat feature—securely manage their assets, monetize content, and more–all in one place. By gathering all the tools and features across TOMI’s privacy-centric ecosystem, the TOMI App smoothly assembles them into a secure environment that offers users a capable alternative to the current, privacy-inept web.

Some of the TOMI App’s core features include:

  • Integrated chat and payments: Enables users to send and receive crypto directly from within chats and includes private group chats to foster collaborations around financial engagements.
  •  Multi-profile management: Users can create and toggle between public and anonymous profiles for specific interactions.
  • Frictionless onboarding and built-in privacy: Designed to respect privacy, the TOMI App doesn’t require users to provide an email, phone number, or wallet connection. Users simply need to create a username, and the app builds a wallet in the background to be used for the crypto and payment features.
  • Monetization features: Allows content creators to receive payments directly from their followers without relying on third-party platforms.

“By blending social features, payments, and monetization into an intuitive and user-friendly Web3 experience, the TOMI App eliminates the complexities that typically come with Web3,” says Moshe Hogeg, founder and senior consultant at TOMI. “Our mission is to make crypto more accessible for all people by creating simple, native tools for creators and communities and bridging chat, payments, and monetization without compromising on privacy. Whether you’re sending crypto to a friend, or a creator interested in leveraging your community to earn, it can all be done from within the TOMI chat feature, and without logins, external tools, or the friction associated with clunky dApps.”

Accounting AI Collaboration Aims to Transform Military Accounting Efficiency in Southeast Asia

Published

on

Kuala lumpur, Malaysia, 22nd Jul 2025 — In a quiet but groundbreaking move in Southeast Asia’s defense-tech space, people like Karunesh kannu Singhania, Emily Ng and Abhishek Agrawal are part of a collaborative initiative exploring how AI-driven accounting systems can address long-standing inefficiencies in military and defense-related financial operations, in collaboration with both Government and Private companies coming together.

The project, operating at the intersection of private innovation and institutional frameworks, focusing in South East Asia with spread across Singapore, Malaysia and India, is developing specialized AI tools designed to enhance the transparency, accuracy, and adaptability of military budgeting processes.

The Persistent Problem: Oversight Gaps in Military Spending

For decades, defense-related financial systems have faced challenges in tracking procurement expenses, minimizing cost overruns, and aligning spending with operational readiness. In many regions, these issues are exacerbated by fragmented data, slow reporting cycles, and minimal real-time oversight.

While modern militaries have invested in logistics and equipment, their financial systems often lag behind—leading to reduced agility and hidden inefficiencies.

The Role of AI in Defense-Grade Accounting

The emerging solution is coming from group project where people like Karunesh kannu Singhania and Emily Ng’s collaboration is a modular, AI-native accounting architecture specifically tuned for high-security, high-complexity environments like defense.

Key capabilities under development include:

  • Automated reconciliation of procurement workflows
  • Pattern detection for cost anomalies or duplicate invoicing
  • Secure, role-based financial reporting
  • Predictive analytics for long-term budget planning

By shifting from static spreadsheets and legacy ERPs to a dynamic, AI-integrated accounting layer, the platform aims to help institutions achieve clearer oversight without sacrificing the confidentiality such sectors demand.

A Regional First in Cross-Border Financial AI Collaboration

Built as a collaborative framework between regional stakeholders, this project brings together multidisciplinary expertise from Southeast Asia’s growing defense-tech, enterprise software, and policy innovation communities.

“This initiative is about building tools that solve the hardest accounting challenges in environments where visibility and precision are often in tension,” said Karunesh kannu Singhania, the system accounting strategist.

Emily Ng and Abhishek Agrawal added that “Our goal is to build a system that not only works under complexity, but also evolves as the operational needs shift. This isn’t just software—it’s a rethink of accountability at scale.”

What’s Next?

The platform is currently in early testing with select institutional partners and is slated for controlled pilots by early 2026. Interest has already grown among private contractors, compliance consultancies, and academic researchers focused on financial automation in high-security sectors.

As AI reshapes industry after industry, this initiative may prove that even the most complex, opaque financial environments can be reimagined—with the right tools and the right intent.
