Hangry and Winemedicated by Patricia Kyle Mendoza: Pushing Boundaries of Contemporary Living
After a thoughtful hiatus, acclaimed artist Patricia Kyle Mendoza makes a striking return to the art world with her latest solo exhibition, “Hangry and Winemedicated.” The exhibition opens on Tuesday, 21 January 2025, at 6:00 PM and will run until 29 February 2025, offering visitors a profound journey through the complexities of contemporary existence.

Mendoza’s new collection is a bold and introspective exploration of the delicate balance between personal and professional life. Through her signature palette of deep cobalt blues and luminous golds, she masterfully transforms intimate narratives into universal experiences. Her innovative acrylic techniques achieve a watercolor-like fluidity, creating a mesmerizing interplay of opacity and transparency that mirrors the emotional states captured in her works.

The exhibition features a series of evocative pieces, including “Night Cap,” “Finance Team Alignment Meeting,” and the powerful triptych “Woman from 2020.” Each artwork reflects Mendoza’s evolved perspective, where life’s challenges—from corporate dynamics to moments of personal reflection—are reimagined as compelling visual narratives. Works like “Be the Problem” and “Ibuprofen” resonate deeply, capturing the controlled chaos of modern life and the resilience required to navigate it.

“Hangry and Winemedicated” is more than an art exhibition; it celebrates the human spirit’s ability to find beauty in chaos. Mendoza’s expressive figurative style and unique ability to translate the zeitgeist of contemporary life into art have solidified her position as one of the Philippines’ most distinctive artistic voices.

About The Artist
Patricia Kyle Mendoza’s artistic journey is as multifaceted as her works. Mentored by UP Studio Arts luminaries Raymund and Estela Ocampo Fernandez, she honed her craft at Kenneth Cobonpue’s design studio before venturing into corporate leadership, creative direction, and education. As a key figure in Cebu’s UNESCO Creative City of Design initiatives and leader of MATIC Hub, Mendoza brings a wealth of experience to her art. Her diverse professional background informs her unique perspective, allowing her to create works that resonate with audiences on a deeply personal level.
This exhibition marks Mendoza’s triumphant return to painting, showcasing her ability to transform the complexities of modern life into compelling visual narratives. Her works reflect not only her personal journey but also the shared experiences of her audience.

Event Highlights
The opening reception on 21 January 2025 will feature cocktails and an opportunity to meet the artist. Private viewings can be arranged by appointment, and all exhibited pieces will be available for sale.

Cristobal Bull, Nowhere to Hide, The Islander, and What Mommy Doesn’t See Win April BREW Award
Australia, 1st May 2025, –
The Chrysalis BREW Project has announced the winners of the April 2025 BREW Readers’ Choice Award Book of the Month. The titles recognised this month are Cristobal Bull by Chris Corbett, Nowhere to Hide by Jude Austin, The Islander by David W. Berner, and What Mommy Doesn’t See by Karen Ledbetter.
Cristobal Bull by Chris Corbett was noted for its character construction and storytelling approach. The review from The Chrysalis BREW Project stated, “Corbett’s focus on the Bull’s past serves the story’s depth and flow well.” It also noted that the author “presents the Bull as a human being first, with motivations, history, and internal logic.”
Nowhere to Hide by Jude Austin was recognised for its exploration of interspecies dynamics and ethical complexity. The review highlighted, “The best parts of this book highlight what happens when two intelligent life forms attempt to understand each other without the option of walking away.”
David W. Berner’s The Islander was chosen for its portrayal of introspection and change. According to the review, the book is “not a travel story but a story of travelling inward, away from things, people, and situations, and toward clarity.”
Karen Ledbetter’s What Mommy Doesn’t See was recognised for its narrative focus and treatment of sensitive topics. The review noted that “Ledbetter handles sensitive scenes with a deliberate lack of over-dramatisation” and “presents the narrative from the child’s perspective without unnecessary exposition.”
More details about this announcement are on The Chrysalis BREW Project website.
