Filmmaker Kadir Mayel Completes The Road, a Dramatic Short about Syrian Refugees

Published

on

Latest project, based Mayel’s journey on foot from Syria to Sweden, adds to Mayel’s growing professional body of work as a filmmaker and cinematographer in Los Angeles

United States, 24th Aug 2026 — Filmmaker and cinematographer Kadir Mayel today announced that he has completed work on his dramatic short film “The Road.” The film tells the story of Syrian refugees attempting a dangerous winter border crossing. It examines themes that include survival, sacrifice, hope, and the human cost of forced migration. The film adds to Mayel’s growing and distinctive body of work in Los Angeles.

“The Road is based on my own experiences of displacement and migration,” explained Mayel, who is originally from Aleppo, Syria, but left the country during the war and later undertook an extended journey on foot across Europe to reach Sweden. “My lived experience contributes to my personal visual style and approach to storytelling.” Mayel credits his experiences in Syria, Turkey, Europe, Sweden, and the United States for informing his interest in stories involving displacement, survival, identity, resilience, and human connection.

Mayel’s remarkable personal journey helped shape his artistic perspective. After establishing a life in Sweden, studying electronic and software engineering, and working professionally as a software engineer, he relocated to Los Angeles to pursue filmmaking. His career in Los Angeles has been multidisciplinary, expansive, and successful. His work spans commercial narrative productions, independent cinema, directing, lighting, and visual storytelling. He is known for technical precision, visual discipline, and emotionally grounded storytelling.

In Sweden, Mayel studied electronic and software engineering at KTH Royal Institute of Technology. He then worked professionally as a software engineer. This technical background gave Mayel the discipline, preparation, and problem-solving abilities that now inform his approach to cinematography and filmmaking. He completed his filmmaking education at the New York Film Academy in Los Angeles. His training encompassed cinematography, directing, screenwriting, lighting, editing, producing, camera operation, and production leadership.

Throughout his career, Mayel has contributed to productions connected with internationally recognized artists and brands, such as a music video for OneRepublic and a commercial production for Microsoft. His experience across music videos, commercials, and narrative filmmaking has required him to work within large professional crews, collaborate across camera and lighting departments, and maintain high technical and creative standards under demanding production schedules.

As a Los Angeles filmmaker, Mayel has distinguished himself by achieving a range of competencies in an industry where most people choose a narrow specialty for their careers. Mayel’s abilities span—and synergize—cinematography, filmmaking, visual development, and production leadership. This background gives Mayel a distinctive capacity to lead a production at both the organizational and creative levels.

Mayel has worked with leading production companies. These include professional narrative work for SkySpire Productions, a notable creative and digital production studio specializing in promotional content, brand identity design, and publishing,  and Dhar Mann Studios, a video production company that creates short scripted videos primarily distributed on platforms such as YouTube.

Guest rooms have been upgraded to enhance comfort and more effectively accommodate the needs of long-term guests. The Club Lounge, for exclusive use by guests staying in club rooms, has been expanded as is now the largest in the city of Naha, and a menu has been developed for guests to experience Okinawan food culture. In addition, the “Teppanyaki Izumizaki” restaurant is the first in Okinawa to be certified to serve Kobe Beef, and also offers local beef all presented on traditionally crafted pottery, creating a blend of authentic Okinawan culture and high-class dining. Furthermore, the Garden Pool reopened on June 1, 2026 and has been renovated to deliver the feeling of a resort within the city of Naha.

Okinawa Harborview Hotel will carry on a half-century of history and hospitality while delivering the image of the “modern Okinawa” for the next 50 years.

Guest Rooms

Guest rooms have been renovated based on Ryukyu indigo, the traditional color of Okinawa, and designed to deliver feelings of relaxation and warmth. Among these rooms is the “Club Executive Twin,” designed for longer stays. It features an all-in-one washer/dryer, microwave, and other appliances. It is designed for efficiency and comfort, making it suitable for a wide range of stays, including travel and business.

The Largest Club Lounge in Naha

The rooftop lounge has been expanded to become the largest one in Naha. It offers an expansive view of the city and different food and drink options depending on the time of day. Menus for breakfast, tea time, dinner, and late-night dining have been developed to help guests experience the local culture and the slow passing of Okinawan time. Macmillan Lawyers and Advisors Expands Intellectual Property Services for Brisbane Businesses

Published

on

Australia, 24th Aug 2026 – Macmillan Lawyers and Advisors, a trusted provider of commercial legal services, has expanded the intellectual property services available to businesses operating across Brisbane and South East Queensland. The expanded offering covers trade mark advice and registration support, copyright matters, design rights, confidential information and trade secrets, licensing arrangements, and the enforcement of intellectual property rights where infringement is alleged. The firm has attributed the change to sustained enquiry volumes from local operators seeking to identify, register, and protect intangible business assets.

Intellectual property already formed part of the established practice areas at Macmillan Lawyers and Advisors, alongside business setup and protection, contract law, commercial law, bankruptcy, liquidation, and turnaround strategies. The expansion increases the depth of advice available to clients at each stage of the commercial lifecycle, from the point at which a trading name or brand is first adopted through to the treatment of intellectual property assets during a sale of business or a formal insolvency process.

The expanded services address several areas where Queensland businesses commonly encounter difficulty. These include clarifying ownership of works created by contractors and employees, conducting clearance checks before a brand is adopted, preparing licensing and assignment documentation, and reviewing confidentiality and restraint provisions in commercial agreements. The firm also assists clients in auditing intangible assets, a step often overlooked by small and medium enterprises until a transaction, dispute, or financing arrangement requires it.

“Intellectual property tends to be treated as a matter to deal with later, and the difficulty is that the position is often much harder to correct once a brand has been trading for several years,” said Kyle Macmillan, Principal of Macmillan Lawyers and Advisors. “Registering a company name or a domain does not create trade mark rights. A significant proportion of the matters coming through the practice involve businesses that assumed those steps were sufficient, and the expanded service is intended to bring that advice forward to a point where it remains straightforward to act on.”

Brisbane supports a diverse commercial base spanning professional services, technology, construction, hospitality, health, and creative industries. Many of these operators trade under names, logos, product designs, and proprietary processes that carry commercial value but sit outside any formal registration. Where a competitor adopts a similar mark, or where a former employee or contractor asserts ownership over material developed during an engagement, the absence of clear documentation can complicate resolution and increase cost.

Enforcement forms a further component of the expanded services. Macmillan Lawyers and Advisors acts for clients responding to alleged infringement, as well as for those who have received allegations from third parties. That work draws on the firm’s dispute resolution practice, which handles commercial and civil litigation across South East Queensland. Intellectual property matters also intersect with the firm’s insolvency work, given that trade marks, copyright material, and licensing agreements frequently rank among the assets considered in restructuring, liquidation, and turnaround engagements.

“The intention over the coming period is to continue building capacity in this area and to keep advice accessible to businesses that would not ordinarily engage specialist counsel,” said Macmillan. “Filing activity across Australia has remained steady, and awareness of intangible asset protection has improved among smaller operators. The expectation is that demand for structured advice will hold at current levels, and the practice has been positioned to respond to that without requiring clients to engage multiple advisers for related commercial matters.”

Consultations are conducted from the firm’s office in the Brisbane central business district, with matters accepted from clients throughout the region. Where a proposed filing requires a registered patent attorney, the firm coordinates with external specialists while retaining responsibility for the associated commercial documentation. Fee arrangements and scope are discussed with clients at the outset of each engagement.

Macmillan Lawyers and Advisors is a Brisbane based legal practice providing services across business setup and protection, commercial law, contract law, intellectual property, bankruptcy, liquidation, and turnaround strategies. The firm represents businesses and individuals throughout South East Queensland in advisory, transactional, and contentious matters. The expansion of its intellectual property services broadens the range of assistance available to local operators managing the protection and commercial use of intangible assets.
